About
"Being creative is the easy part of being as artist, trying to establish your name and putting yourself out there showing the world what you can do is tough. A lot of my work comes from the news, a social media post, or just every day life." - Dee Mattox, 2023
Denise, or Dee as she preferred, was born & grew up in & around Wyandotte County, KS. She married shortly after graduating from high school, took time to study & be herself before putting her passions on hold to raise two kids. She raised them in St. Charles, MO briefly, then outside Houston, TX. Dee was an extraordinary mom; Patient, thoughtful, wildly fun for any age, understanding, & never ever turned down an opportunity to listen.
After her youngest graduated, & reclaiming her youthful freedom, she moved back home, where she eventually
was able to pursue a lifelong dream of living in the city with her sister, free of suburbs & PTA meetings.
Over the years, she volunteered to be a mom to several young people who didn't have one otherwise,
while toiling away at jobs that provided life skills she was able to pass down. Finally, she was able to
retire, & she was actually able to focus fully on her purest talent: Art. When not creating, she & her
sister worked several fairs, shows, & events together, showcasing their collective & individual creations.
Art being her purest talent, her & her sister worked several fairs & events together, showcasing their art & forming strong bonds.
Anyone that knew her in a real sense knew two things:
- Dee was a real badass
- Dee was generous beyond comparison with anything she had to give
Unfortunately, she passed too soon in June 2024. She will never not be missed.
